Paracas

Paracas is a delightful little town situated right on the pacific coast of Peru to the south of Lima, famous for its ocean-view seafood restaurants, colorful beach, wildlife, and proximity to the Islas Ballestas.

The Islas Ballestas are a collection of islands off the coast, famous for their enormous populations of birds and wildlife that make the islands their home, and a half-day boat cruise to the islands is definitely recommended. The boat cruise will also pass the mysterious Candelabro de Paracas, an impressively large geoglyph carved into the coastline.

However the attraction of Paracas to honeymooners is the serene tranquil nature of the town, blended with its selection of high quality resort hotels. Whilst the beach may not be the best for sun-bathing in South America, it is perfect for romantic evening strolls and the sunsets are stunning. The hotels on offer include the Hotel Paracs Luxury Collection and Aranwa Paracas Resort and Spa, amongst others, both of which include luxurious spa facilities, swimming pools, and high-end restaurants and other services.

Simply put, Paracas is a great location to spend a few days relaxing in luxury at the start or end of a honeymoon in Peru.

02

The Colca Canyon

The Colca Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, at a staggering depth of over 4000 metres from top to bottom at its deepest part, and is some of the most wonderful landscape in South America. The Colca Canyon is accessed by a half-day journey from the Peruvian city of Arequipa, and visits to the canyon would normally also include visits to the Condor Viewpoint to watch the mighty condors soaring high above the canyon on rising thermals.

Although this is a highlight of Peru, at first glance it may not seem like an obvious choise for a honeymoon… however the mixture of the staggering beauty of the landscape, and the high standard and rural isolated tranquility of the spa resorts in the deeper parts, can make this a perfect choice for a romantic time together. The “Colca Lodge, Spa and Hot Springs” hotel features a natural thermal spring within the hotel grounds allowing you to enjoy a drink in the natural heat of the spring whilst marveling at the beauty of the landscape, whilst the more luxurious “Aranwa Colca Resort and Spa”, and “Las Casitas del Colca”, offer slices of luxury in this wonderful region.

03

The Northern Beaches of Peru

The northern beaches of Peru, particularly those accessible in the Mancora region, offer the perfect opportunity for a few days of sun-worship and romantic relaxation at the end of a honeymoon in Peru. Although the beaches aren’t quite up to the standards of more traditional beach destinations, such as the Maldives or Fiji, they are by far the best beaches in Peru and with resort hotels providing luxurious options and astonishing views over the Pacific, it is difficult to find a better way to wind down a honeymoon after a few days of adventure and discovery in the Peruvian highland regions.

Hotels in the region all feature beach views, and most have additional services such as spa sessions, water sports, swimming pools, cocktail bars, and beach activities. Hotel Dco Suites and Arrenas Mancora are two hotel options to consider.

04

Sacred Valley of the Incas

The Sacred Valley stretches between Cusco and Machu Picchu, and contains some stunning Inca ruins including Ollantaytambo, Moray, Pisac and Chinchero. Although the valley doesn’t quite have the enormous valleys and stunning gorges of the Colca Canyon, it does have a peaceful tranquility, calmness and natural beauty, as well as significance and importance with its cultural and historical association with the Inca Empire.

The valley has a natural aura of relaxation, and as such is an excellent location to spend a few extra days relaxing together away from the beautiful, but busier, city of Cusco. There are walking options, as well as horse riding treks to some of the Inca ruins, and hotels in the valley provide rooms with stunning views over the valley, and luxurious services. To sum it up: the Sacred Valley is a special place, and worth spending some relaxing time during any honeymoon.

05

Stay in a Private Villa in the Amazon Jungle

The Amazon Jungle is one of the three main geographic regions of Peru, and is a wonderful, natural, and beautiful place to spend some time whether on holiday or on honeymoon. For wildlife lovers, observing birds of paradise in the trees of the jungle, spotting giant otters in oxbow lakes, or listening to the sounds of the jungle come alive at night as you slowly fall asleep, are all magical and romantic experiences to be cherished forever.

To make the experience that little bit more romantic and special, instead of staying in normal jungle lodges it is possible to stay in isolated private villas within the Amazon Jungle, for the ultimate romantic experience. Villas are isolated from other lodges, and feature private services including romantic Amazon sunset river boat rides.

06

The Gocta Waterfall

In a rural and isolated location in far northern Peru, near the city of Chachapoyas, is Gocta Waterfall, one of the ten highest waterfalls on the planet. Although the location is isolated and relatively difficult to access compared to the more popular south of Peru, for those looking for something truly unique, different, and a little adventurous to make their honeymoon that little bit more special, a visit to the Gocta Waterfall cannot be beat. Visiting the falls is possible via a 2-3 hour trek offering panoramic views of the falls from afar, and the chance to see the falls up close at the base.

For hotel choices the Gocta Lodge overlooks the falls. Although the hotel may not be the most luxurious in Peru, it is the best in this isolated region, and the views from the balcony area of the Gocta Lodge, with its infinity pool and backdrop of the waterfall, must surely be amongst the greatest in South America, so if you like the idea of waking up to see this stunning view on your honeymoon, include a visit to the Gocta Waterfall.
